The National Center of Missing and Exploited Children
Web site the statistics for missing children were shocking.
U.S. Department of Justice national incidence study found the following results:
114,600 attempted abductions of children by nonfamily members
438,200 children are lost, injured, or otherwise missing
450,700 children run away
354,000 children are abducted by family members
These reports from the Child Protection Service were found while visiting Childabuse.com
estimated 1,215 child maltreatment deaths in 1995
Over 3 children died each day in 1996 as a result of parental maltreatment
estimated 480,000 children are mistreated each year by a caretaker with alcohol or other drug problems
In 1991 a sum of 838,232 cases of child abuse were reported to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System, 15% was sexual abuse.
